R-Truth, Zack Ryder, Layla and Elvis Duran, the host of Z100 FM’s “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show,” visited children and teens at the hospital, where they posed for photos, signed autographs and distributed WWE toys. “It’s great to be in New York and New Jersey and giving back to my home, my community,” said Ryder, a proud Long Island native.
The Superstars met more than 40 teens at the hospital’s iHeart room after visiting four floors. Jeffrey Frerichs, president and CEO of the hospital, explained, “This is one of the highlights of the year for the kids. It’s what we try to do to enhance what their normal day would be. They get ecstatic when they see celebrities. We are extraordinary grateful. We are extraordinary honored. It’s great to have new friends.”
It wasn’t just a meaningful experience for the kids, either. “We were singing and dancing with some of the kids. It was a lot of fun,” Ryder explained. “It was a great inspiration,” Layla gushed. “The biggest lesson I learned today was that these kids have the best spirits and the best souls. I met a young girl Kamaya and she took her first walk today.”
R-Truth agreed it was a great experience, “We put some smiles on faces today. It’s for a good cause. You always feel good to give back. And today we gave back.” Layla summed up a great visit, saying, “Just knowing we made them smile today made all the difference.”
St. Mary’s Hospital for Children specializes in treating kids with medically complex conditions and special needs. It’s part of the St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children, which is a not-for-profit organization that offers intensive rehabilitation, specialized care and education to these patients in the New York metro area.
